The star has given the full amount of his £25k Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which functions to save the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

He was presented with the prize on October 16 as his third album his work was named the top album of the past year.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role local spots played in his early career.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the performances I did around the area, and beyond, when I was starting out," said Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have shut down – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians including the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds supported venues that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges caused by flooding, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues received financial assistance in modernizing facilities and gear that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from shows in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his honor winnings to good deeds.

Back when Pulp won the trophy in the year 1996 for their album the album, lead singer Cocker stated that the act would contribute their winnings to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer she divided her prize between a few charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the youth organization that developed their band, alongside other local music groups.

And 1994 winners they donated their award to a MS organization after a close contact was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said singer Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory affected the lives of others."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued two local spots in that region, by placing them under local control.

The first in Southampton and the other in that location were bought under the public acquisition program, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
